Hardwood in timber engineering

Ernst Gehri explored this question in his presentation at the Vienna Glulam Symposium 2014. Starting with early practical applications on individual objects, he then shed light on the fundamental considerations that lead to high-performance connections in timber construction. Using the examples of glulam in beech, glued-in anchors and openings in beams, he also takes a critical look at the development of standards and approvals.
