Aquabasilea – wood and steel in the “stress test”

Between 2008 and 2010, the Swiss bank Credit Suisse built a hotel, office and recreational complex in Pratteln worth a total of approx. 155 million euros. The central part of this building is the leisure and fun bath “aquabasilea”.

As a basic idea of the architects, the layout of the “aquabasilea” leisure pool should roughly reflect the map of Switzerland, including the cross of the Swiss national flag, in the middle of the construction.

In the center of the building, the individual roof segments were joined by a firstring, which is supported by four wooden round columns. This component is the central design and design element of the entire roof construction with an inside diameter of 8.60 m.
